Who am I?

 

I don't see myself as an artist. I’m just a person who likes art and creative expression in general. And not just only watching it, ever since my childhood I imagined things that I wanted to create by myself. And so I did and I’m still doing so.

 

As a child I also knew what I wanted to become when I was older: an architect.

That dream came true, but being  an architect also has limitations in what you will be able to realize at long last. There are rules and legislation, budgets, deadlines and review committees that force you use your creativity within restricted boundries.  

 

Although I still like my profession I longed for more freedom and that is why I took up different forms of expression beside my work in order to give my creativity a free hand. I’ve sculpted for a wile, took part in a shoe contest, designed and made jewlery, light ornaments, objects and furniture.

And for now I’m creating digital images.

Era of Virtual Reality

 

 “Looking down on empty streets, all she can see
Are the dreams all made solid
Are the dreams all made real

All of the buildings, all of those cars
Were once just a dream
In somebody’s head”

 

These lyrics from “Mercy Street” by Peter Gabriel express the thought that all the world around us starts with a dream and that the dream has to be made solid in order to see it.

As previously said, the step to realisation often meets up to restrictions. Sometimes you will succeed and overcome this restrictions and sometimes you won't.

 

However it is not allways neccesary to realise something tangible in order to fulfill your dreams. We have the luck to live in a world that has a parallel universe nowadays. Virtual reality is all around us. Judging by the number of people that is staring at their mobile phone all day, a lot of us practacaly live in this other reality.

Also in art it is not allways neccesary tot realise something concreet. Conceptual art puts the idea above realisation.

 

My images originate from the view that, in a virtual world, there are no restrictions fulfilling your fantasies, symply because of the fact that you can create and define this world yourself. (Even penguins with fear of heights can fly under these circum-stances!)
